I have worked in the wedding industry for 17 years and started my own sales/marketing business 7 years ago. Seventeen years ago, I was working as a real estate agent. I was tired of all the driving and working weekends. I wanted to make a change so I took the position of sales and marketing director for a family owned wedding facility in North County. The facility was losing money and said if I couldn’t turn it around, they were going to close the doors. I had no experience in the wedding industry except for the fact that I had been married the year before. I learned quickly that Sales is sales and marketing is marketing no matter what industry you are in.
I had a great team of people working with me. Sales increased over 100% in the first year. The trend continued and soon we were doing over 200 weddings a year! During my first ten years in the wedding industry, I learned two VERY important things. First I had the opportunity to visit with thousands of brides and to find out what would have made their search for vendors easier. They all said the same thing; the big bridal magazines, although they were great for pictures and ideas, overwhelmed them. They knew that vendors were only in these publications because they paid to be there and not because of their capabilities. They therefore, wanted true resource with reliable choices but they would prefer fewer choices.
I also had the opportunity to learn that an event is only as good as the vendors that are running it. I had met both good and bad vendors during that time and it makes all the difference in the world who you select for your event.
Both of these facts put me in a unique position. Unlike most other bridal magazines, I have talked with brides and know what they want and having worked in the industry for 17 years, I know the best vendors! Something Blue has my professional backing.
